Some ways away, thunder cracked and lightning flashed. Lent him mythologies, and, one stupid night… I turned him loose. He spoke Yandric to me, and I taught him to read. I tracked his passage to the area of the fairground… and I should’ve anticipated what he did there. There’s a Drauv with this host we hunt… who leaves only black timbers and burnt bones where homes once stood.

I mean it more direly and seriously than I can really communicate. I welcome you to doubt me, because I know what you’ll find. People already born, and bruised by years… and people that are glimmers in the ether, someday to open tiny wondering eyes. Love for the world and the people of the world. It’s not about vengeance,” Lilia said, “Comes before vengeance. Or times gone by, graves filled in, lives spent, dreams fallowed.

So let me start by saying… It’s not about anything in the past. And you three have earned more from me than silence and staring.

Though I admit the challenge of it… is almost driving me now,” Kalim admitted. But… Why’re we still out here, Lilia? Why’s it so important for us to catch these Drauven? Is it about vengeance now? Because… I don’t know.” I’d certainly be interested in hearing it sometime. “But anyway, yeah,” Jamil said, “I wish I felt this was an appropriate time for storytelling. After a pause, he continued, “See how he shuts up when I say ‘ Dad’?” “ When the woods stand shy to wave in the endless air, with moon and star buried in their thick, fragrant hair, I’ll tell you a story that was told to me in trust, of the Emerald Lady whose f-” “Well, I’ve known a night or two like this one. Timeline matches well to ours,” Kalim said. If you trust those dice-toothed tracksmen, they say Drauven camped here a while back. ~~~“Hunter’s lodge up the hill, hidden away. Tied about its hilt was a necklace, which Kalim promptly gave to Jamil. The Drauven left behind a dagger, better than Kalim’s own, that he then replaced his old dagger with. Lilia slew the final Dart with a mighty blow from his Seaspear. Malleus approached it carefully, and Kalim went so far as to slip into the greyplane when approaching it. Where was it?Īfter more searching still, Lilia finally found the Dart near some rocks along the southern edge of the site. There was still a Drauven there, but they couldn’t see it. Kalim stayed close, attacking with his dagger the Stump that had dared to attack Jamil. Jamil circled around to kill the Haunt, which was the more dangerous foe. Lilia followed also, intending to create a discus that would take out both the Haunt and the Stump, but the Haunt dodged, causing it all to fall through. Malleus hurried towards the other members of the group, striking the Haunt. The Stump also attacked Jamil, but it did absolutely nothing. The remaining Haunt attempted to attack Jamil, although luckily it failed, coming out of the greyplane to do so. Lilia followed Malleus, splinterblasting a log that killed the Stump, while Kalim followed Jamil, attempting to shoot the Stump down and failing. The group split up then, with Malleus heading right to attack one Stump, while Jamil moved up to attack the other. Two Stumps appeared from the shadows and advanced, while the other Haunt still did roam. Kalim then joined the others and shot the Haunt dead. This would have been enough to kill it, had it not blocked Jamil’s attack. Taking advantage of the Haunt now being exposed, first Jamil and then Lilia attacked it. But that first attack still had to happen, and it was Malleus who made it happen. The first attack never landed, always only knocking them out of the greyplane. ~~~A Haunt was a type of Drauv that was very difficult to hit, owing to the fact that they could halfway enter the greyplane. “That one by the… oh,” Kalim trailed off, “The one by that Drauv, actually.” “Then there’s birdspat on the rocks, and it looks like someone was testing a blade on that trunk,” Kalim continued. “Like us, they likely weigh and balance multiple concerns,” said Jamil. Can see where a kettle-stand dug its foot in,” Kalim said, gesturing to the ground. Or are you waiting for me to notice your lovely neck-back? It’s a nice neck-back, I’ll give you that,” Jamil called out. The canopy tossed a gentle aroma over them, like pepper and sage. Jamil continued to shower Kalim with gifts, giving him another trinket found in the rubble, this one a brooch. Stats: Published: Updated: Words: 43847 Chapters: 12/?
